Who should take this course?

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

What does this course teach?

This course teaches critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrives. The students learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and strokes.

In addition, we prepared our students with the skills for handling injury and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones and sprains, and bites and stings.

Assistance with Self-Administered Medication in Florida.

When Florida residents can no longer manage their own medications in an Assisted Living Facility (ALFs) and/or Home Health setting, they rely on Med Techs to assist them. The Med Tech certification course provides students with 6 hours of training regarding safe assistance to safely administer medications in an Assisted Living Facility (ALF). IT of Central Florida Vocational School Med-Tech is taught by a Registered Nurse.

After successful completion of the certification course, you will be prepared to:

• Understand a prescription label.
• Assist with oral dosage; topical ophthalmic, otic, and nasal dosage forms.
• Measure liquid medications, break scored tablets, and crush tablets in accordance with prescription directions.
• Recognize the need to clarify of an “as needed” prescription order.
• Recognize a medication order which requires judgment or discretion, and to advise the resident, resident’s health care provider or facility employer of his or her inability to assist in the administration of such orders.
• Complete a medication observation record (MOR).
• Retrieve and store medication; and recognize the general signs of adverse reactions to medications and report such reactions.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Needlesticks and other sharps-related injuries may expose workers to bloodborne pathogens. Workers in many occupations, including first responders, housekeeping personnel in some industries, nurses.

Course Objective

• Identify sources of bloodborne pathogens.
• Understand the risks involved in caring for people who may contact blood.
• Learn how to clean up blood and blood-containing fluids appropriately.
• Understand the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) for preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
• Explain how bloodborne pathogens are transmitted.
• Learn how to avoid exposure to bloodborne pathogens from the use of sharps.
• Learn how to respond if exposure does occur.
• Create a core sense of responsibility among participants to prevent future incidence of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

In this Program we prepare the students for the Clinical Skills Test, in addition to preparing them in questions and answers to Pass de written Exam.

The Clinical Skills test is intended to measure your ability to perform typical CNA required skills. The test is a timed test where you will be evaluated on performing three assigned skills and Handwashing and Indirect Care. The time allowed for the Clinical Skills Test ranges from 31 Minutes to 40 Minutes based on the skills you are asked to perform.

The CNA Written test is intended to measure a candidate’s mastery of nursing assistant knowledge and skills. The test consists of 60 multiple choice questions. Students are given 90 minutes to take the exam.

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) typically works in a hospital or long-term care facility, such as a nursing home and Facilities Hospital to provide basic care to patients.

CNAs perform several important tasks, including:

• Serving meals and helping patients eat
• Measuring patients’ vital signs
• Repositioning and transferring patients between wheelchairs and beds
• Cleaning patients
• Helping patients use the restroom and dress.
